Roses Run
(Singles Event and Skins)
Sunday June 22,
2003
The
Mulligan Tour had its 4th event out at Roses Run Country Club
in Stow. There was a great
showing of 36 golfers and the course played tough.
Maybe it was the lingering effects of the US Open or the pressure
of the Goodyear Blimp, but only 4 players managed to get under par.
Kevin
Major came strong this week and dropped his lowest round of the year. Kevin shot 83, which was –3 with his 14 handicap.
In fairness, Kevin probably was the most deserving to win.
He was drilled in the back from an errant tee shot on the 15th
hole. Kevin showed a gutty
performance by continuing on and actually birdying the following hole.
Congrats!
Tour
rookie Matt Phillips had the only good showing out of all the new
players this week. Matt was
–2 and picked up an easy $54 for his efforts.
There
was a tie for third between Bryan Corban and Dave Hawk.
Bryan Corban shot his 3rd consecutive round in the
80’s while Dave shot 10 strokes better than he did at Deer Track to
finish in the money.
As
usual, Ken Schley was on the outside looking in.
Ken finished 5th at Thunderbird, 4th at
Deer Track and was 5th again this week.
They say your first victory is always the toughest, so hang in
there Ken!
For the
skins, 30 players participated and there were a total of six skins. Joe Scuer made the most of his birdies, picking up skins on
holes #1 and #7. George
Herrling birdied the par 4 4th hole and Dan Gibel somehow
managed to birdie the difficult 9th hole. Chuck Backus was
the only person to par the par 4 13th hole and the same was
true for Bryan Corban on the par 3 17th.
For
the year, Joe Scuer moved into first place, despite a sub-par
performance this week. Brian
Murch moved into second, but failed to separate himself from the field
with a 26th place showing this week.
Dave Wilson dropped to third place after taking this week off.
Ken Schley and Dan Gibel round out the top five.
