Painesville Country Club
(Singles Event and Skins)
Saturday July 12,
2003
Thanks
to everyone for coming out to Painesville Country Club on Saturday. The course proved to be tough, as only 2 players were under
par.
For
once, my predictions came true. Hometown
hero Skip Fairbanks tied for first place, firing a net 68.
Skip not only works for the city of Painesville, but also has
laid woodchips out at the course. Congrats
for finishing in the money for the first time all year!
Wiley
veteran Michael Thompson had the round of the year, with a gross 78, for
a net 68. Mike somehow shot
a 38 on the difficult back nine and finished tied for first place.
Nicely done!
Kevin
Major continues his hot streak by finishing third, with a net 72.
Kevin also picked up 2 skins; he birdied the par 5 first hole and
was the only person to par the difficult par 3 11th.
These were 2 of the 3 most difficult holes!
Roy
Munk birdied the 12th hole; which was playing into the wind
and is significantly uphill. Only
one other person managed to par the hole.
Although
the short, par 3 14th hole was the second easiest hole, Bryan
Corban’s near ace was the only birdie.
Bryan was only 18 inches away from the cup and also won closest
to the pin.
The
long 15th hole, a par three with little margin for error, was
also one of the most difficult holes.
Dave Wilson actually birdied this hole to take home the final
skin of the day. Only one
other person managed to par this hole.
Dave
Hawk had a solid day by taking the closest to the pin on the front and
also the long drive on the back. Chuck
Backus won another long drive with his tee shot on the par 5 6th
hole.
